An innovative solution to the challenges of safe patient movement and transfer was recognised at the NHS Innovations North, Bright Ideas in Health Awards 2016. The ReDiSlide is designed by Diane Hindson, Back Care Adviser at County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust, and developed by leading healthcare company GBUK Healthcare as part of their extensive Banana Patient Moving and Handling product range. Diane’s neat and practical design features a conventional tubular section slide sheet, with the addition of integral flaps at the head and foot ends. The patented ReDiSlide design means that just one slide sheet, inserted in just one way, can be used for patient repositioning, turning, proning and unproning, and lateral transfer. With the ReDiSlide all these procedures are much easier for carers, and more comfortable and less stressful for patients. ReDiSlide provides scope for a significant reduction in the risks of injury to both staff and patients associated with patient movements in everyday nursing care, and is equally appropriate on the ward, in theatre or in the ITU, Diane’s achievements were rewarded during a sparkling ceremony at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, with ReDiSlide winning third place award in the category ‘Innovation in Medical Technology or Device’.
